To all loyal members, past members and supporters it is with sadness that the Coastwatchers Association, the first environment group to form in Eurobodalla Shire is winding up after 42 years.
The association formed in 1983 in response to proposals to dam the Upper Clyde river and other perceived assaults on the local environment from unrestrained development.
Coastwatchers has had a strong membership of committed people and mounted many campaigns and written submissions on planning , Rural Land Strategy, native forest logging, Charcoalition, coastal management, Koalas, Dargues Reef gold mine.
Since inception many other environment/conservation groups have formed to promote their special passion and Coastwatchers while still active has been more of a collaborative organisation. The outgoing committee had to make a difficult decision at the last AGM to wind up as no Committee positions were filled.
Thank you to the many people who have held committee positions, donated time, funds and belief in advocating and fighting to safeguard the local environment.
We look forward to seeing all of you in the various groups across the region that are active in environmental conservation and can all reflect so proudly on all we have achieved at Coastwatchers over the years.
